ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation seized 7,000 kilogramme of smuggled fabric worth Rs 7.7 million, besides impounding a dumper truck worth Rs 3 million and Mercedes-Benz worth Rs 10 million during different actions. . The truck was being used for transportation of smuggled items.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that information was received regarding an attempt to smuggle cloth from Peshawar through a truck. Following information, the ASO team intercepted the dumper on GT Road near Attock and recovered 7,000kg foreign origin fabric. The officials asked the driver and three other persons travelling in the truck to show documents regarding legal import of the cloth, but they could not produce the same.
Therefore, the accused persons were arrested on the sport, besides impounding the truck along with cloth under the customs law, he said, adding that the raid was conducted with the assistance of Punjab Police. He said that FIR has been registered against the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Model Customs Collectorates’ car cell impounded a Mercedes-Benz car worth Rs 10 million during an action.
Superintendent Chaudhary Safdar said that car cell received information through collector that a non-duty paid vehicle is roaming in the city with the registration number BES-69.
In pursuance of information, the customs officials started chase the said vehicle from Islamabad and caught it near Murree, superintend said, adding that the driver of the vehicle fled from the scene as the officials approached the car.
He informed that document found from the vehicle were fake, after that the car was impounded under the customs laws and shifted to the collectorate for further investigation.
During first quarter of fiscal year 2016-17, the car cell performed better as it impounded 19 body changed non-duty paid vehicles. It was said that “body changed vehicle are not allowed driving without getting NOC by the relevant department. Collector Arslan Subuctageen has appreciated the performance of car cell.
