Customs seizes goods worth Rs 1.03b in July, registers 96 cases

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Islamabad has seized Rs 1.03 billion smuggled goods and has registered 96 cases against the smugglers during July 2015.

According to details, Deputy Director headquarter Khaldunul Haq told Customs Today that during the course of anti-smuggling activities in July 2015 Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Islamabad has seized goods amounting to Rs 1.03 billion in different parts of the country including Rs 5.4 million of 38,903 yards of cloth, 216 kilograms of smuggled tea having worth of Rs 291,321 while 64 offending vehicles having worth of Rs 111 million were also seized during July 2015.

He added that 207,000 liters of diesel having worth of Rs 12 million were recovered and seized, electronics goods worth of Rs 802.2 million, Rs 1 million of smuggled medicine and Rs 29,963 million of 25 tyres, tubes and auto parts were also seized while 5,064 dandas of foriegn smuggled cigarettes and Gutka worth of Rs 4 million were also seized during the anti-smuggling drives in July 2015.

He further added, that 18 non-duty paid vehicles worth of Rs 18.7 million, and other smuggled goods worth Rs 59.3 million were recovered and seized while 471,500 kgs of smuggled urea having worth of Rs 18.8 million were also seized during anti- smuggling activities.
