Suspects in TCS, Smart Zone case plead not guilty in customs court

ISLAMABAD: Customs Special Court has imposed allegation on Chief Executive Officer TCS Courier Company Saqib Hamdani, OCEO Smart Zone Shakirullah and others in TCS Courier Company and Smart Zone smuggling case. However, accused refused the allegations.

It is said that after proving of allegations, TCS and Smart Zone companies can be abolished and Customs authorities will contact to Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for suspension of registration, through which all the national and international operations of TCS would be unearthed.

Afghan route closure weighs on Pakistan-Central Asia trade, exports fall 9%, imports plunge 88%

As per details all the accused were presented in the court on Friday at Special Customs Court, where Justice Chaudhry Mumtaz Hussain has imposed allegations on all the accused after Customs Intelligence and Investigation submitted the evidences in the court. However all the accused refused the allegations. Next hearing of this cases would be held on April 29.

It should be cleared that TCS and Smart Zone have been under hot water for smuggling non duty paid items of Samsung Electronics in different cities of Pakistan under the head of Afghan Transit Trade. All the goods were used to store in the TCS warehouse from where these items were distributed in different cities of the country. In this connection an agreement was also signed between TSC and Smart Zone.

As per details if all the allegation were proved on TCS and Smart Zone than SECP would be entitled to cancel the registration of TCS.
