ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Tariq Masood, Member Legal of the Federal Board of Revenue, asked the customs staff of the Model Customs Collectorate to concentrate on the court cases and follow the right procedure while presenting the departmental cases before the respected courts. The interest of Inland Revenue Service is disrespect to the makeup of the court cases due to lack of interest and hard-work against the Customs Department.

This was said by Member Legal while holding a meeting on Thursday and discussed legal issues relating with the revenue and stretcher of cases. The meeting was attended by Tahira Sarwat Habib, Customs Chief Collector North, Dr. Saeed Khan Jadoon, Collector Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad and Legal Section of Islamabad Customs staff.
The sources told Customs Today that, during the meeting, the Legal Section of the MCC Islamabad offered a presentation based on 10 court cases. Sources added that, during the meeting, the Member Legal asked the MCC legal team to make the court cases with full devotion and hard-work because when stretchered cases were lost in front of the honourable courts, they complained to the high-ups of the relevant government officials.
The Member Legal of the FBR appreciated the Customs Department and showed less concern over their presentation in the court cases whereas the Member showed his observations in the court cases presented by Inland Revenue Service (ARS). The Member said that, because of taking less interest, the honourable Judges of the courts complained to the government representatives that the IRS Department did not present the court cases with full preparations.
The sources told CT that the Member also asked the MCC Islamabad’s Legal Section to inform the relevant customs lawyer before hearing of the cases and remind them of the date of hearing of the departmental cases. Sources added that the Member shares his past experience to provide the guideline for Customs Legal Section.
