Amnesty scheme: Customs widens ambit of investigation in vehicles clearance scam

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in its much expected move has enlarged the investigation ambit in dubious clearance of imported vehicles after their age-limit during the period of 2012 to 2013 and involved the then Customs officials, who were deployed in Car Group during that said period into the course of investigation.

Sources disclosed that the FBR authorities concerned have constituted a 2-member committee comprising Additional Collector (ADC) Irfan Javed and ADC Akram Ahmed in order to probe into the dubious clearance of cars and unveil the real culprits behind the entire offence.

Sources informed Customs Today that the FBR authorities concerned have assigned both the officers who are currently posted at MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim in order to unearth the real elements behind the entire scam, as the case is linked with the MCC Appraisement-West and FBR, authorities concerns with a view to uncover the real facts appointed officers of MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, who have good reputation.

Pakistan Customs officers of MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim have started investigating the Customs officials, who were deployed at that time in the Car Group of MCC Appraisement-West.

Authorities concerned of MCC Appraisement-West have already issued show-cause notices to 37 clearing agents into the said case while the MCC Preventive has issued 12 show-cause notices to the shipping agents in this regard.

Sources confirmed that more sensational revelations would come to surface within next few days in connection with the dubious clearance of vehicles under amnesty scheme.
