KARACHI: In bid to avoid overcrowding of consignments at Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT), the Customs Department has decided to allow the clearance of single-item consignments through scanners.

The Customs Department decided to simplify the clearance process after discussing the issue with almost all the stakeholders including terminal operator, FPCCI, All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Karachi Customs Agents Association.

Around 12,000 full container load (FCL) are yet to be cleared as no good declarations (GDs) have been filed by the traders for clearance. The stakeholders have decided to shift Full Release (FR)/auction containers to another bonded area located outside port to create extra space for examination, besides releasing goods through scanning. But the Customs Department informed them that FR cargos cannot be moved outside the ports due to some technical reasons and urged the terminals to clear the deliveries at earliest.
