Customs to be given status of law enforcement department soon: Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar

KARACHI: Chief Collector Enforcement South Zahid Khokar has said that last year the Customs Department generated more revenue than 2015. He added that the Customs will soon be given status of a law enforcement department.

According to details, Pakistan Customs celebrated International Customs Day (ICD) 2017 at Old Customs House, Eduljee Dinshaw Road with great zeal and enthusiasm. The daylong ceremony started with the flag hosting ceremony.

On the event to mark the day, Chief Collector Enforcement South Zahid Khokar appreciated the role of the Customs officers in curbing crimes and busting suspects involved in smuggling. He said that during the year 2016 customs generated 18 percent increased revenue than it collected during the year 2015 that showed the vigilance and better performance of the department.

He also informed that customs department will soon be given status of law enforcement and for this purpose paper work and other necessary steps are under pipeline.

Commenting regarding the International Customs Day Chief Collector Enforcement South Zahid Khokar stated that the day is celebrated to raise the importance of the customs as it is the department that is contributing in the revenue generation, busting the culprits involved in the smuggling as well as offenders causing millions of rupees loss to the country through trade.

During the event chief guest, Member Customs Nasir Masroor Ahmed, Collector Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Preventive, Chief Collector Enforcement South address to the gathering respectively on the enhancement of the effectiveness and efficiency of the officers to boost the revenue collection, community protection and national security.

The chief guest Member Customs Nasir Masroor Ahmed and Chief Collector Enforcement South Zahid Khokar also distributed certificate to Superintendent Anti-Smuggling Organization Muhammad Aslam including other officers who performed their duties in well manner.
