Customs to initiate crackdown on few OMCs soon: Tariq Huda

KARACHI: Customs authorities have started inquiries against some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for their alleged involvement or usage of their invoices for the supply of Iranian Petrol and diesel.

Talking exclusively to Customs Today, Collector Model Customs Collectorate MCC Preventive S M Tariq Huda yesterday disclosed that a major crackdown on few OMCs for their alleged involvement in supply of Iranian diesel and petrol would be done after the completion of the ground work by the Customs officials in this regard.

Meanwhile, it has been reliably learnt that some Oil Marketing Companies’ invoices are being used for the supply of oil tankers/containers containing smuggled petrol and diesel from Iran.

It is further learnt that some oil tankers have also been impounded supplying Iranian petrol on the invoices of these OMCs.

It may also be recalled here that invoices of a couple of companies were found at the time of raid on the oil tankers and containers in the recent past. Sources in the Customs department have termed it as just  a tip of the iceberg and hinted that sensational disclosure may surface after completion of the inquiries.

The Collectorate is also mulling over to summon OMC’s officials soon in this regard.
