FBR sources told Customs Today that the increasing misuse of mixture trucks has become a cause of great concern for the Customs authorities. The government has allowed the import of used mixture trucks to give a boost to development activities where these trucks are intended to be used, sources said. The government encouraged the import of mixture trucks to help the development activities. On the other hand, these trucks are used for carrying goods once cleared.

The increasing misuse of these trucks forced the Customs Department to detain a consignment of 24 mixture trucks that arrived at the Karachi Port sometime ago.

The importer, Baig Enterprises, approached the Sindh High Court and a division bench issued orders for the release of the vehicles.

The Customs would approach the Supreme Court against the decision with a request to issue a stay order.

“The crux of our appeal will revolve around the fact that the government has allowed the import of mixture trucks to encourage development, but the purpose remains unachieved as trucks are turned into loading ones,” sources said.
