ABUJA: The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has threatened to sanction erring Freight Forwarding agents who have been dubbed ‘briefcase agents’ who could not be traced to a registered operational base. The NSC, in a statement signed by the Acting Comptroller, Inspection, Abdullahi I.A, at the weekend, directed the 61 affected agents to appear before it or face the full weight of the law.
The Customs had cautioned that it would revoke the license of agents, which were not found in given addresses during the 2017 inspection exercise. The memo dated August 2, 2017, was addressed to the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF). “I am directed to request you to inform your members whose names appear on the attached list to report immediately to Comptroller Inspection, NCS Headquarters, Wuse Abuja on or before August 11, 2017. “Failure to repot within the time frame and present evidence of existence of Agency’s office accommodation will lead to blockage of the affected companies license,” it read in part.
