Customs top brass must take action to eradicate evil of bribery from Green Channel : Advocate Shahin Shah

PESHAWAR: The customs high-ups must eradicate the evil of corruption from green channel facility by introduction of anti-bribery and anti-corruption rules.

These views were expressed by Shahin Shah while talking with Customs Today. Advocate Shahin Shah working as corporate lawyer based in Peshawar added that due to billions of corruption in the green channel scam, the image of customs appraisers have dropped for which the customs officials need to take serious steps and actions.

If the customs high-ups didn’t respond to the the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after Customs Today highlighted corruption of Principal Appraiser Dost Mohammed and his team, this will be very disappointing for the economic growth of the country.

The advocate further said that for better economic growth, it’s the time to take strict action against the corrupt officials.

The corruption due to green channel scam caused loss of billions to the exchequer due to which the importers and business community also suffered a lot.

This corruption has also discouraged the genuine traders and importers because when contraband goods had been cleared through green channel. This adds doubts in the minds of those giving resources and time to clear their goods through green channel.

The clearance of banned goods through green channel raised problems which is cursing importers, transporters and customs exchequer, said advocate Shahin Shah.

After the Supreme Court of Pakistan took notice of the corruption scandal at customs green channel, till now no arrest has been made which is creating hurdles in way of progress of trade economy.
