Customs Tribunal summoned to defend imposition of Rs 1.13m tax on company

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued directions to the Customs Appellate Tribunal for appearing before the court in a tax reference challenging imposition of sales tax of Rs 1.137 million.

The court has directed the tribunal to appear before the court in order to defend its decision on May 25, 2016.

M/S Lakson Tobacco Company Limited had filed the case before a division bench of IHC. The notices states: “you (the tribunal) are hereby summoned to appear in this court (IHC) in person or by a pleader duly instructed and able to answer all court’s questions relating to the matter on 25/05/2016.”

The notice further cautioned that “in default of your appearance on the day before the court, the case will be heard and determined in your absence.”

The notice carrying direction was also copied to customs additional collector, collector of sales and federal excise duty, additional collector of sales tax, Islamabad and others.
