Customs unearths massive mis-declaration in blanket imports, recovers Rs 50m

KARACHI: The Customs Department has unearthed a massive mis-declaration scam on import of blankets and recovered a huge sum from two private companies.

The Customs Appraisement recovered an amount of Rs 50 million from Al-Imdad General Trading Corporation and Al-Darwish.

Deputy Collector (Appraisement-East) Ali Aijaz detected the said companies got their consignments of blankets cleared from Green Channel by mis-declaring the goods as bed-sheet covers.

The blankets fall in PCT 6301.4000 and the Customs values of blankets have been determined at $3.6/kg, while Al-Imdad and Al-Darwish got cleared the goods under PCT 6302.3910, which defines bed-sheet covers and its customs values are $2.3/kg. After thorough examination, the Customs authorities recovered Rs 49.654 million from the importers.
