Customs Welfare Shop remains closed due to unknown reasons since a year

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Welfare Shop at the MCC Islamabad has been closed due to unknown reasons for the last one year. The lower customs staff is demanding its reopening soon.

The welfare shop was inaugurated by Sarwat Tahira Habib, former Chief Collector, Customs North Region, on 8th of March 2017.
Officials informed Customs Today that consumer and other miscellaneous goods were offered for sale at the shop. It was added that, on the direction of the FBR, the Islamabad Customs constituted an operating procedure for the welfare shop which were strictly followed.
The sources told that a four-member management committee constituted consisted of additional collector (HQ) as president, deputy /assistant collector (HQ), state warehouse superintendent and Customs House officers.
Under the rules for the shop, all decisions of the committee are signed by the president and all other members. Goods are received by the Customs Welfare Shop from the Customs State Warehouses of the collectorate after the payment of all government taxes.
All goods received by the shop were being duly entered in the stock book and ledger, and daily sale statement was also being prepared. The sale was being done entirely against cash payment and credit sale was not being allowed under any circumstances.
Sale proceed was being deposited into the designated bank within 24 hours against the current account in the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) which was operated by the president of the committee.
The lower staff requested Zulafikar Ali Chaudhry, Collector MCC Islamabad, to reopen the said shop for the welfare of the customs staff of the MCC Islamabad.
