PRAGUE: A special team from the Prague Customs Administration seized a large number of counterfeit luxury watches from a stand at the Vietnamese marketplace Sapa in Prague 4.
Customs officers singled out for inspection a booth that at first glance seemed to be in order, with completely legal goods for sale on the shelves, according to a statement on the Customs Inspectorate website.
Upon closer inspection, however, customs officers discovered counterfeit goods under the counter including nearly 6,000 watches marked with the logos of international fashion companies such as Breitling, Omega, Gucci, Bench, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Montblanc and Hublot.
Representatives of trademarks were also present for the inspection.
If the watches were real luxury goods, their value would have been more than 350 million Kč.
Since the beginning of this year, the Prague Customs Officers have conducted nearly three dozen inspections aimed at protecting intellectual property rights and also to protect consumers.
