Daewoo Cargo Service involved in smuggling of non-duty paid foreign goods: Sources

PESHAWAR: Daewoo Cargo Service and Motorway Express smuggled huge quantity of non-duty\tax foreign origin goods, including LCDs, LEDs, generators and air conditioners to other cities of Pakistan on daily basis, an official of customs department revealed.

The official disclosed that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) signed a treaty with Daewoo Express to not transport foreign origin goods to other cities, however, Daewoo Cargo officials violated the treaty from the beginning of services. “On daily basis in morning million of rupees illegal goods are transported to other cities through Daewoo service without any check of customs officials, as they are bound and not authorized to keep check or stop them anywhere” an official said. He added that such practice gives loss to government treasure million of rupees.

Similarly, residents of Peshawar claimed that Motorway Express also transported foreign origin goods to other cities without any check. “The stand of Motorway Express located near Peshawar Board is also illegal” an official informed, adding that the stand is located near to Karkhano Market, so it is not a big deal for smugglers to transport foreign origin goods to stand from where they easily transport it to other cities without any check.
