Dar meets Chinese President for signing MoU of $50b bank

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Ishaq Dar has met Chinese President Xi Jinping after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of $50 billion Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

On the occasion, President Xi Jinping reiterated his commitment to visit Pakistan. He lauded the Ishaq Dar and the representatives of other countries for their support in pursuit of common development.

The Chines president hoped that all the member countries would make efforts to make the AIIB a financing platform of infrastructure construction featuring equality, inclusiveness and high efficiency, and multilateral development bank. He said that the bank would meet the demand of all countries in the region.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar greeted the Chinese President on establishing AIIB and said that it would complement the efforts of the existing multilateral development banks. The minister told Xi that the government and people of Pakistan eagerly looked forward to his visit.

Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar also met Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Chairman Jiang Jianqing in Beijing and discussed investment opportunities for the bank in various sectors including infrastructure development of Gwadar.

Jianqing thanked to the government of Pakistan for bestowing him with the Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam Award and said that he was honoured and pledged support to strengthening Pak-China relationship.
