Dar praises FBR for tax collection in Q1

ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has praised the performance of FBR in collection of taxes.

The minister said revenue target in the current fiscal year would not be changed. He was addressing the introductory session of the Tax Reforms Commission. He said the tax reforms were meant to increase the tax to GDP ratio. The commission should furnish recommendations to help bring more people in the tax net, he said. The finance minister briefed the members about the tax collection and country’s economy in the first quarter.

The committee members were formally introduced to each other and the commission’s objectives came under discussion. It was decided that working groups would be formed in the commission to deal with various departments. The working groups would be formed in the next meeting of the commission. The meeting would be summoned after Muharram.

FBR sources said the first meeting was limited to the minister’s address and introduction of members. Next meeting would be chaired by Commission Chairman Masood Naqvi. FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa and chamber representatives attended the meeting.
