Dar to preside over first meeting of Tax Reforms Commission

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar will chair the first meeting of Tax Reforms Commission (TRC) formed to upgrade the taxation system and to address tax-related issues of general public.

The meeting of 21-member Tax Reforms Commission will be held on Saturday, in which the ways to promote tax culture and to improve the taxation system in the country would be discussed.

The commission will also review the direct and indirect taxes; customs tariffs; the autonomy and administrative structure of FBR and development of a border force to deal with smuggling, besides improving the tax to GDP ratio to boost the economy.

According to the Finance Ministry, FBR has collected revenue of Rs543 billion in the July-September in current financial year as compared to last year’s Rs480 billion. With the establishment of the Tax Reforms Commission, revenue collection is expected to improve further.
