ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is going to launch new Annual Tax Directory of parliamentarians and general taxpayers at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) today (Friday) at 5:30 pm.
The cabinet has already approved the publication of new tax directory of parliamentarians and general taxpayers, official sources said.
Pakistan is the 4th country in the world which is issuing tax directories of the parliamentarians and general tax payers and had been publishing for the last two years, sources said.
The finance minister at a press conference on August 31 announced that the cabinet had approved the launch of the directory and it would be published in next two weeks.
The directory was tabulated from returns filed manually and electronically. The manually filed returns were entered into the system. The tax directory had not disclosed the annual income of all taxpayers.
Meanwhile, the country’s top revenue authority has been mulling to publish the top-100 taxpayers’ list, the sources said, adding that the list was published first time in 2013.
Ishaq Dar had announced publishing the tax directory of parliamentarians and general taxpayers at the end of February every year. However, the government could not do so. The government had issued the tax directory for 2014 on April10, 2015.
According to Tax Directory 2014, as many as 1,040 of the 1,169 lawmakers filed their tax returns. The parliamentarians’ tax directory has tax details of all members of the Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies.
The annual tax directory shows exact details all the citizens who file their tax returns with the FBR every year. The directory contains names, national tax numbers (NTM) along with the amounts paid by each taxpayer to the exchequer.
