Dastagir assures smooth supply of urea to farmers

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastagir Khan held a meeting at Trading Corporation of Pakistan head office to review the operations and performance of the Trading Corporation of Pakistan for the period 2014-15 and first quarter 2015-16.

The Minister for Commerce was informed that the federal government has released a sum of Rs 57.1 billion as subsidy on Urea during the last two years. This has ensured supply of urea to the farmers at subsidized rates.

He said that the Gwadar port was operational because of TCP operations. Under the instructions of the federal government 28 vessels have anchored and discharged more than 1.1 million tons of Urea at Gwadar Port since July, 2013.

A sum of Rs. 2.8 billion were spent by the Government on bringing these vessels to Gwadar which created economic activity in Balochistan province and kept the port operational.

While, during the meeting the Minister said that the Government is working for more inclusive growth and its mega infrastructure development projects would bring prosperity to the economically backward areas of the country.

He said that the TCP brought its vessels of imported urea at the Gawadar Port which has proved single largest financial lifeline for the port as the private vessels are reluctant to come their because of the distances and the costs involved.
