ISLAMABAD: Minister of Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan called on Economic Affairs Minister of Kingdom of Bhutan Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk, on the sidelines of the 8th South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) ministerial council meeting in Thimphu.
In the meeting, two Ministers insisted on deepening the good relations that the two countries already enjoyed.
They also discussed on enhancing present trade volume between Pakistan and Bhutan for greater interests of both countries. Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan invited the Bhutanese Economic Affairs Minister to visit Expo Pakistan to be held later this year in Karachi to explore investment opportunities for Bhutan. Mr. Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk suggested that Pakistan should invest in Bhutan and take full advantage of a liberal foreign direct investment (FDI) regime.
On the other hand, Pakistan Finance Minister Ishaq Dar deemed the Commerce Minister’s visit to Bhutan as an important visit, where in addition to participation in Safta meeting, he would also have the opportunity to meet with his counterparts from regional countries.
