KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs is going to establish a database for the millions of mobile phones on WeBOC (Web-Based One Customs) so that the PTA as well as the telecom service providers could verify whether the cell phone is provided to a customer after payment of duties/taxes, it is learnt.
Sources told Customs Today that a database was being developed to maintain data of smuggled cellular phones in the country and only those (cell phones) whose duties/taxes are paid would be turn on for any service.
In the WeBOC system, the legality of the mobile phones could be checked by the user by providing IMEI number of the handset, sources added.
There is a large number of smuggled phones in the country’s markets and the only way left is to maintain database of the same, the sources opined.
