DC Asma issues notice in seized cloth, vehicle case

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has issued a show cause notice to accused person allegedly involved in smuggling of cloth through a vehicle, which was also impounded by the customs.

During checking of the vehicle, Faisalabad Customs Intelligence and Investigation team intercepted a Shahzore vehicle bearing Registration No. 7043 and recovered grey cloth from the vehicle.

The team asked the owners of the goods and vehicle who introduced theirselve as Rashid Khalid and Ashraf , to show documents regarding legal import of the cloth but they could not produce the same.

Therefore, the officials impounded the smuggled vehicle and grey cloth under customs laws and forwarded case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

Now, Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued notice to the accused person on the violation of Section 10-A. 89(1) and 156(1) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156 (1) 89 of the Custom Act, 1969 and called them to show cause as to why the said items should not be confiscated under aforementioned provisions of the law.

However, the adjudication has directed the accused to file reply on next date of hearing. The seizing agency has also been directed to file reply in the respective case.

Hearing date of in this case has been fixed, while the respondent may appear in person or through his accredited representative before the undersigned at his office,

The adjudication authority also directed Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Muhammad Riaz Hussain to attend the hearing on schedule date along with relevant record.
