DC Asma serves notice on Cres-Style for evading customs duty

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collctor Asma Hameed has served show-cause notices on M/s Cres-Style Private Limited for taking illegal benefits under rule 9 of SRO- 327(I)/2008, causing serious financial losses to the national exchequer.

As per details, Faisalabad Customs Assistant Collector Idrees Qureshi conducted audit of the company for the year 2012-13 when it imported consignments of ladies jump suits, etc with eight percent wastage as per Analysis Certificate No 694 and 695, meaning 92 percent of raw material was be consumed by the company.

However, the company showed 100 percent net consumption and 8 percent wastage totalling 108 percent of consumption. Thus it claimed 16 percent wastage instead of 8 percent. The omission resulted into loss of government revenue. Therefore, an amount of Rs 341,161 was short paid on account of custom duty.

The department forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action. Now, the Customs Adjudication has issued show cause notices to the importer directing it to appear before the Deputy Collector Asma Hameed.
