COPENHAGEN: Danish operator TDC said that revenue in the first quarter of 2016 fell by 5.9 percent to DKK 5.827 billion, with EBITDA down 10 percent at DKK 2.227 billion but net profit rising 22.1 percent to DKK 624 million. It said it maintains its 2016 guidance, and that the launch of the new YouSee box in its home market of Denmark is off to a good start.
Danish revenue was DKK 4.436 billion, down from DKK 4.865 billion a year earlier. Danish mobile revenue was DKK 1.098 billion, down from DKK 1.154 billion. Internet and network revenue in Denmark were DKK 1.257 billion, down from DKK 1.309 billion. Television revenue was unchanged at DKK 1.094 billion.
TDC had 1.839 million mobile consumer RGUs in Denmark in the first quarter, up from 1.837 in the final quarter of 2015. Churn improved to 18.9 percent from 19.2 percent from the previous quarter but ARPU fell to DKK 114 from DKK 116.
Consumer internet and network RGUs in Denmark edged up to 1.063 million in the first quarter from 1.060 the previous quarter. TV RGUs improved to 1.396 million from 1.377 million thanks to intake of a large antenna association (18,000) and Trefor customers (7,000).
Danish business mobile RGUs were unchanged at 739,000 over the quarter and churn improved to 15.9 percent from 16.3 percent. ARPU fell to DKK 123 from DKK 125. Business internet and network RGUs in Denmark slid to 230,000 from 231,000. Broadband ARPU fell to DKK 258 per month from DKK 264.
In Norway, where TDC now owns the operator Get, television RGUs fell to 426,000 in the first quarter from 427,000 in the fourth quarter of 2015, but TV ARPU improved to NOK 283 from NOK 279. Residential broadband RGUs improved to 351,000 from 345,000 and ARPU grew to NOK 255 from NOK 250. Business RGUs, where were TDC Norway’s IP VPN, declined to 19,700 from 20,100 at the end of 2015.
In Sweden, TDC ended the first quarter with 167,000 mobile RGUs, up from 158,000 on 31 December, but mobile ARPU declined to SEK 131 from SEK 137 in the previous quarter.
It said migration of all mobile customers to the new MVNO contract with TeliaSonera has now been completed. Swedish internet and network RGUs dropped to 40,800 from 41,700 the quarter before.
