Deprived of 250m gallons a day, Karachi water woes may worsen due to power breakdown

KARACHI: The water shortage in Karachi, which has been deprived of around 250 million gallons per day, may worsen as the functioning of all the pumping stations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) remained stopped for over eight hours due to the countrywide power breakdown.

A KWSB official, “Due to the breakdown, the metropolis was deprived of around 250 million gallons per day.” He warned Karachi’s residents to be economical in their use of water for the next four days, saying that it was possible that there may be no water supply for some parts of the city.

He detailed, “The breakdown occurred at 11:30pm and lasted till 8am on Sunday morning, affecting pumping stations including those at Dhabiji, Gharo, NEK, Hub and Pipri. Most of the city has already been hit by a severe water crisis and the breakdown’s effects may last till Wednesday.”
