Deputy Collector Adjudication Saima orders to impound NDP vehicle

FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Saima Ayaz has ordered to confiscate smuggled foreign-origin vehicle as respondent failed to defend allegations.

Deputy Collector Saima Ayaz heard a case filed by Anti-Smuggling Organization against Faisal Abbas following the charges of smuggling. The deputy collector issued order-in-original (ONO) no: 59/2018 in favor of the customs department.

As per details, the staff of Anti Smuggling Organization Jhang intercepted a Mitsubishi Pajero bearing registration no: KSA-6600 near Jhang Road. He was asked to produce documents relating to the smuggled vehicle but he remained failed to do so. Therefore, the foreign-origin recovered Pejaro wase impounded under Section 2 (kk) and 17 of the Custom Act, 1969.

Later, the case was forwarded to the adjudication for further legal proceedings where a show-cause notice was issued to accused person under Section 171 of the Custom Act. But no one appeared from respondent side and no written reply was submitted.

After hearing the arguments, the deputy collector issued ONO stating that it is therefore, established that the respondents have nothing to defend against the allegations framed in the show-cause notice. The case is, therefore, decided on the basis of the facts and materials available on the file. The charges framed in the show-cause notice stand established. She also ordered to confiscate the vehicle under the customs laws.
