Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issues ONO in alcohol smuggling case

FAISALABAD: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Asma Hameed has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of the Air Freight Unit (AFU) Faisalabad.

Sources informed Customs Today that the AFU seized three bottles of foreign alcohol, Chivas Regal and Red Label, under section 168(1) of the Customs Act 1969 read with section 17 ibid for violation Section 2(s), 15 and 16 of the customs act 1969 from a suspect who was identified as Rana Danish. The suspect is a resident of Madina Town Faisalabad.

During the checking process of passengers of Flydubai flight no. 323, the customs teams noticed a bag. It was clear that the alcohol was prohibited and was brought to the country without payment of any duty.

The AFU authorities seized the liquor and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for proceedings. During the hearing of the case, no one appeared on behalf of the respondents nor any written reply had been received from the respondents despite giving opportunities to be heard.

Inspector Bashir Hussian appeared from the prosecution and stated that seized liquor falls under section 2 ( s ) of the customs act 1969, read with current policy order.

After hearing the arguments deputy collector Asma Hameed  issued ONO in favor of AFU Faisalabad and declared of liquor under section 156(1)8 and 9 of the customs act 1969 as legal.
