Deputy Collector Asma issues notices to owners of non-duty paid LEDs

FAISALABAD: The Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has issued a show cause notice to owners of non duty paid LED and almonds which were brought into the country through unauthorized routes.

Sources told Customs Today that Faisalabad Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) intercepted a vehicle near Guttwala Toll Plaza and recovers smuggled large amount of LEDs and foreign origin almonds . The team asked the owners /drivers of the vehicle who was identified as Qaiser , Saad  and third person named as Abdul Majeed  to show documents regarding legal import of the LEDs and foreign origin almonds . But they failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession of the above said items. Therefore, the officials impounded the goods under customs laws and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

Now, deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued notices to the accused persons on the violation of Section 10-A. 89(1) and 156(1) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156(1)89 of the Custom Act, 1969 and served him a show cause notice as to why the seized item should not be confiscated under aforementioned provisions of the law besides penal action as warranted in law.

However, the adjudication has directed the accused to file reply on next date of hearing. The seizing agency has also been directed to file reply in the respective case.

The adjudication authority also directed Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan to attend the hearing on schedule date along with relevant record.
