Deputy Collector Asma issues notice to owner of non-duty paid mobiles

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued a show cause notice to owner of non-duty paid mobiles, accessories.

According to details, Customs AFU staff seized 60 mobile phones worth Rs 180,000 from a passenger who arrived at  Faisalabad International Airport from Qatar involving customs duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 88,507.

It is necessary to mention here that customs AFU staff recovered 60 mobile phones from his possession. The passenger failed to show any legal documents regarding purchase of these mobile phones. Upon his failure, the AFU team seized the mobile phones under section 168 of Customs Act 1969 under violation section 2(s), read with SRO 566(1)/2005 section 16, 18, 139, 157(1), and 178.

After seizure AFU authorities forwarded this case to to Customs Adjudication while Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued show cause notice to Nadir Ali.

The authority warned that if the owner fails to provide evidence the case will be decided on the basis of evidence available on demand.

Asma Hameed also directed the concerned seizure officer or other officer with the case proceedings may be deputed to attend the hearing on the schedule date along with relevant record.
