Deputy Collector Asma issues notice to owner of smuggled generators

FAISALABAD: The Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Asma Hameed has issued a show cause notice to owners of non-duty paid generators .

Sources told Customs Today that Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) intercepted a vehicle near Gutt Wala Toll Plaza and recovered foreign used generators during the searching of the vehicles. The ASO team asked the owner of the goods who was identified as Muhammad Rafique  and the second person named as Ghulam Mustafa to show documents regarding legal import of used and foreign generators   but they failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession of the above said items. Therefore, the ASo team seized the generators under customs laws and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

Now, Deputy Collector Asma Hameed issued notice to the accused person on the violation of Section 10-A. 89(1) and 156(1) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Section 156(1)89 of the Customs Act, 1969 and served him a show cause notice as to why the seized item should not be confiscated under aforementioned provisions of the law.

However, the adjudication has directed the accused person to file reply on next date of hearing. The seizing agency has also been directed to file reply in the respective case.

The adjudication authority also directed Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan to attend the hearing on schedule date along with relevant record. It is necessary to mention here that Customs Adjudication authorities expedited their efforts to conclude hearing of pending cases on priority basis.
