Deputy Collector Farid issues show cause notice to owner of non-duty paid cloth

LAHORE: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Muhammad Hassan Farid issued a show cause notice to the owner of non-duty paid cloth.

As per details, the Customs ASO intercepted a suspect, Jan Mohammad, and recovered 22 bundles (1420 kilograms) of foreign origin cloth near Railway Station.  The customs anti-smuggling team asked the owner of the cloth to provide documents regarding possession and transportation of the cloth but he remained failed to show any relevant documents.

After his failure, the Customs ASO team seized the cloth under Section 168 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 for contravention of the provisions of Section 2(s) & 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with Sections 3 (1) and 3(3) of the Imports and Exports (Control) Act, 1950 punishable under clause (89) of Section 156 (1) ibid read with SRO 499(1)/2009 dated 13.6.2009.

Customs ASO team forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Now Deputy Collector Adjudication Mohammad Hasan Farid issued show cause notice to the owner of the seized non duty paid cloth asking him to appear on 20.7.2017 at Air Freight Unit to explain his position failing which decision will take taken according to available evidence.
