Deputy Collector Halima Qasim serves notice on owner of smuggled tyres

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Collector Adjudication Halima Qasim issued a show-cause notice to the owner of non-customs paid tyres vide seizure report no.397/2018 and asked the accused, Shakeel Hussain, to submit reply within 7 days otherwise decision will be announced on available evidences.

According to details of the case, it has been reported by the Additional Collector under case no.397/2018 that an attempt would be made to smuggled foreign-origin tyres (new) by a bus bearing registration no.P-8899, to check the authenticity of the information a raiding team made check post at Motorway Chowk Islamabad on 10-05-2018. It added that the hinted bus found and search of the bus led to recovery of foreign-origin tyres in worth millions of rupees.

The sources said that at the time of the occurrence, the drivers of the bus introduced himself as Shakeel and Noor Rehman, belong to Peshawar. They had failed to produce any evidence or proof regarding legal and lawful possession of the recovered tyres; therefore, the tyres were brought into the country in violation of section 2(s) & 16 of the Customs Act 1969read with 3(1) of the Import and Exports Control Act 1950.

Sources said that after documentation and due service of notice as envisaged under section 171 of the Customs Act 1969 upon the said accused whereas in view of above facts it is abundantly clear that the aforesaid tyres are liable to outright confiscation in terms of above said provision of the Customs Act 1969 and other allied laws.

The Additional Collector Adjudication served a show-cause notice on the accused persons and asked them to produce every evidence into the office within 7 days so the matter could be solved at the earliest.
