Deputy Collector Hassan Farid orders confiscation of smuggled goods

LAHORE: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of Customs Anti Smuggling Organization declaring the seizure of non duty paid goods as legal.

According to ONO No. 229-22/2017as reported Superintendent Anti Smuggling Organization vide Contravention Report No. 90/2017 dated 8.5.2017 endorsed vide C. No. 01/ASO-120/2017/313 dated 4.5.2017, the staff of Customs ASO Lahore intercepted a cartons of foreign origin cigarette near Niazi Bus Stand. On query a person standing near the cartons identified himself as Shahid Mehmood claimed the ownership of the above mentioned cartons. He stated that he purchased the foreign origin cigarettes and other items from Shahalam Market. On demand he failed to produce any legal documents regarding possession of these goods.

Customs anti smuggling team seized the goods and after registering a case of smuggling forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.

Customs Adjudication issued show cause notice to owner of these goods to appear and explain his position and point of view, but despite issuing notices, owner failed to appear before Adjudication department to provide his innocence.

After his failure Deputy Collector issued ONO in favour of Customs ASO declaring the seizure of non duty paid goods as legal.
