LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Mohammad Hasan Farid has declared the seizure of a non-duty paid Toyota Land Cruiser as legal.
According to the details, superintendent Customs Anti Smuggling Organization vide Contravention Case No. 140/2017 dated 3.6.2017 endorsed vide C. No. 01/ASO-114/2017/458 dated 6.6.2017 are that pursuant to an information on 5.5.2017, the customs staff of ASO as mentioned above intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser bearing registration no: JA-191 (Islamabad) near Bhordwala Chowk, Allama Iqbal Road Lahore. The person on the driving seat identified himself as Muhammad Saleem, a resident of Okrara, and failed to provide any legal documents regarding legal import of auction of the jeep.
The driver of the vehicle only produced a photocopy of the registration book and requested to allow time for submission of valid proof showing lawful import of the vehicle. The customs team detained the vehicle and forwarded a reference to ETO Motor Registration Authority, Islamabad.
During the course of inquiry the said owner appeared in the office and submitted an application and claimed that the said car was brought into the country through Army auction vide issue voucher BA No. 817717. He also showed his willingness to pay the duty and taxes on the body mounted on the chassis frame. After examination of the record Deputy Collector Mohammad Hasan Farid directed to release the detained vehicle to its legal owner after payment of duty and taxes.
