Customs official praises measures taken by Commerce Ministry for infrastructure development and land port
LAHORE: Development of infrastructure at the land ports can enhance the trade activities, said Customs Deputy Collector Tauqir Dar at Wahga border.
Talking to Customs Today, Dar praised the measures taken by the Commerce Ministry regarding the infrastructure development and establishment of a land port at the border. He said that infrastructure would play an important role in developing the quality of trade and facilitating the traders of both countries.
He said, “No doubt, these kinds of strategies will help to speed up the clearance process and to secure the trading products.”He said there were two scanners at the border to scan the carriages. He said more yards and sheds were needed to improve the trade at the border.
The World Bank (WB) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) authorities had visited the border on October 31.
An official had said that almost two years ago the authorities of WB and ADB had visited the border and gave suggestions to enhance the trade. He said that customs authorities had accomplished the suggestions and developed the infrastructure to much extent.
The Commerce Ministry is likely to establish infrastructure at the border to facilitate exporters to meet international standards.
Earlier, Customs Today had reported that the ministry has planned to fully equip the land port to ensure efficient movement of cargo vehicles and passengers. The ministry aims at increasing and promoting trade, generating employment and wealth, boosting investment and opportunities and enhancing people-to-people contact between the inter-reliant neighbours.
