LAHORE: The business community has condemned the illegal detention of containers loaded with perishable items and flammable chemicals allegedly detained by police for political reasons.
Talking to Customs Today, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Vice President Nasir Hameed said that perishable items worth millions of rupees are lost while the containers loaded with flammable chemicals pose danger to citizen’s lives.
He said that the business community is impartial and it should not be dragged into political affairs. He said that importers containers are being illegally detained by the police which is grave injustice to the business community and the government should forbid the police from unlawful detention of containers loaded with the imported items.
He added that the containers have been held by the police for political reasons and demerge and rent coast would be sustained by the businessmen for nothing.
He highlighted that business community has immense importance as with the taxes and duties which the business community pay the government runs by these revenues.
The government must bring to an end the illegal detention of the containers, he urged, adding that the political parties should settle their issues on table through dialogue.
Altaf Tora, a businessman and an associate of LCCI said that the government should not misuse power by detaining importers raw-material loaded containers and let them do their business peacefully.
A driver of a container, Saadullah Khan said that government has committed access to him by detaining his container unlawfully.
He said that he is a poor man and has a family back in Peshawar and he was unable to see his family for two day.
He urged the government to allow their containers to go and unload them at the godowns of the importers.
