TOKYO: In a surprising move indicative of the bold new connected future of Nintendo, the platform holder has worked out a deal with Devil’s Third developer Valhalla Game Studios to bring the action-adventure to PC.

The PC release is called Devil’s Third Online and is multiplayer-only; you’ll have to pick up the Wii U version to experience the plot. It will be “free-to-start”, Nintendo’s refreshingly honest term for its nascent freemium experiments.

From the mind of Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki, Devil’s Third combines melee action with first-person shooting. Originally in the works for PS3 and Xbox 360 thanks to THQ, it arrives in Wii U in Europe and Australia at the very end of August, with a North American launch scheduled for the fourth quarter. Devil’s Third Online will launch in each region shortly after the Wii U release, beginning in September.
