VIETNAM: DFASS Singapore has confirmed a full service duty free concession with Vietnam Airlines. The new agreement starts on 29 June and will feature the addition of DFASS’s handheld technology. We first reported the news in January, though the parties did not confirm the deal at the time.

Over the next few months the duty free concession will be extended to all three stations in Vietnam: Hanoi, Saigon and Da Nang.

DFASS Group Deputy Chairman John Garner said: “We’re particularly pleased with this development in Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines have an amazing reputation for quality passenger service and reliability. They haven’t featured duty free for a number of years and their potential is very substantial. Airport retailing in the country is highly sophisticated and we will be working closely with the airline to engage the cabin crew through exciting initiatives on product ranging, incentive programmes and the launch of our handheld technology.”

Vietnam Airlines carries more than 7 million international passengers a year, with more than 1,800 cabin crew.

Vietnam Airlines’ international hubs are Hanoi Noi Bai International Airport (duty free launch in July); Saigon Tan Son Nhat International Airport (launch in August/September) and Da Nang International Airport (to be decided).
