DG Intelligene IR to enjoy full powers, vow to dealt with tax evaders with iron hand

KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has boosted the powers of the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue Karachi to enhance the tax collection by bringing the big fish into the tax net.

Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue Karachi, expressing the satisfaction over the full fledged power granted by the FBR, has vowed to launch a grand operation against the tax evaders.

Sources in the Directorate Intelligence IR said that the officers were facing difficulties in pursuing various cases due to insufficient powers against several cases of suspicious transactions and tax evasion besides sales tax refunds on fake and flying invoices.

Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue Karachi has started compiling data of the big fish evading taxes and soon the operation against the culprits will be in full swing, the source added.

The officers of Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue are already investigating the assets of high net worth individuals including politicians, sportsmen, and others whereas it is expected that first action will be against sportsmen.

The test players Younis Khan, Fawad Alam, Asad Shafiq, Anwar Ali, Yasir Shah, Imad Wasim, Babar Azam and Misbah ul Haq had not submitted their income tax returns for 2015-16. As per the FBR report, Mohammad Hafeez is the richest cricketer of Pakistani team followed by Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal. Skipper of Pakistan T20 cricket team Shahid Afridi has assets of over Rs 7 billion.

Directorate general of Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue will investigate around more than four hundred and sixty cases which will include scrutinize suspected bank accounts and conduct raids to track and recover black money and sources of terror financing.
