KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General Lutfullah Virk will visit Karachi in coming days to get a briefing on the recently seized 17 containers of ISAF on the charges of mis-declaration and pilferage.

Performance of customs officials will be reviewed, particularly those at Port Qasim, and a cohesive strategy will be formulated with a view to make the system more effective.

Sources also said that customs authorities will take important decisions regarding the ISAF containers’ seizure to bring all those responsible, including the clearing agents and bonded carriers, to book.

It may be mentioned here that so far only bonded carriers are booked in such seizures, which makes the cases weak. However, the entire chain could be nabbed if such a decision of bringing clearing agents into the net is approved. Such measure could also help minimise smuggling, commented a customs officer.
