MANGALURU: Mangaluru regional unit of the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) has recovered ₹5.38 crore in the evasion of excise duty and service tax since its inception on October 15 2014.
A press release by the DGCEI said here on Friday that the Mangaluru regional unit detected 21 cases of evasion to the tune of ₹6.25 crore during the period.
The regional unit has jurisdiction over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chamarajnagar, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru and Shivamogga districts.
The DGCEI has appealed to the public to come forward and report any instance of evasion of service tax and central excise duty. The informers, who provide credible information resulting in detection of duty evasion, will be rewarded up to 20 per cent of the duty recovered as per the government guidelines from time to time. The identity of such informers will be kept secret, it said.
DGCEI is the intelligence agency under the Central Board of Excise and Customs.
