KUALA LUMPUR: Dhaka is back on the Customs’ radar after 15.56 kilogram of methamphetamine that was flown in from there was seized from three Indian nationals in a house in Klang.

Customs deputy director-general Datuk Zulkifli Yahya said this method was used by drug smugglers to avoid detection.

“Smugglers are always trying to hoodwink the authorities by bringing in illicit drugs from different cities.

“It has been a long time since we seized drugs flown in via Dhaka,” he said yesterday.

Zulkifli said his men sprang into action after receiving information that illicit drugs were being flown into KL International Airport from Dhaka.

Once the contraband landed, it was taken in a lorry to the house in Bandar Bukit Tinggi on Wednesday.

“Once the boxes were taken inside the house, we conducted a raid and found the drugs which were sealed in small plastic bags hidden in between brand new T-shirts made in Bangladesh.

“The seized drugs have a street value of RM1.09mil,” he said.

The three suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were inside the house at the time of the raid.

They have been remanded for a week to assist in investigations.

Zulkifli said initial investigations revealed this was their first visit to Malaysia. The case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
