DI Khan ASO seizes smuggled betel nuts worth Rs44m

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs, Anti-Smuggling Organization Dera Ismail Khan seized huge quantity of crushed betel nuts weighing 15600 kg (Indian origin) at Dera -Darya Khan check post on Indus River, destined from Quetta to Lahore.

Sources told that the betel nuts were concealed underneath mineral coal dust, loaded in a ten wheeler Hino truck.

Total value of the case comes to around Rs44 millions. A case has been framed under relevant provisions of the law and investigation is underway.

Chief collector customs North Dr. Asif Mahmood jah and collector Enforcement Peshawar Khalil Yousafani appreciated efforts of the ASO staff DI Khan led by Additional Collector Khayal Muhammad, particularly on effecting a mega case at the time of lockdown and risk of corona virus.

It is pertinent to mention that despite complete closure of Western border and restrictions on transportation such smuggled goods find ways and are transported to consumption markets of the country.

Khalil Yousafani has advised Additional Collector Khayal Muhammad to strengthen the intelligence network and identify the warehouses and dumping grounds where smuggled goods are stored.
