Dialog Axiata’s Q3 profit increases by 24%

COLOMBO: Dialog Axiata reported revenue of LKR 21.7 billion for the third quarter of 2016 and LKR 64 billion for the nine months ended 30 September 2016, which represents a growth of 3 percent quarter-on-quarter and 19 percent year-to-date, respectively. The Group continued its strong growth momentum across mobile, digital pay-TV, tele-infrastructure and fixed-line businesses, the company said. Financial results include those of Dialog Axiata and of the Dialog Axiata Group post-consolidation with subsidiaries Dialog Broadband Networks (DBN), Dialog Television (DTV) and Digital Holdings Lanka (DHL).

Group EBITDA climbed 9 percent to LKR 7.7 billion for the third quarter of 2016, while group EBITDA for the first nine months of 2016 amounted to LKR 21.8 billion, an increase of 20 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015, and translating to an EBITDA margin of 34.1 percent. Group net profit after tax (NPAT) increased by 24 percent to LKR 2.8 billion. NPAT for the first nine months of 2016 jumped 71 percent to LKR 7.8 billion.

At an entity level, Dialog Axiata (featuring the Mobile, International and Tele-Infrastructure segments of the Group portfolio) continued to contribute a major share of Group revenue, namely 84 percent, and Group EBITDA (87%). Company revenue for the nine months ended 30 September 2016 reached LKR 53.9 billion, up 17 percent year-on-year. Revenue for the third quarter grew by 4 percent to LKR 18.3 billion. EBITDA for the quarter increased by 13 percent to LKR 6.7 billion. NPAT totaled LKR 3 billion for the third quarter of 2016, up 31 percent in the period.

Dialog Television (DTV), the digital pay-TV business of the Group saw its revenue grow 7 percent year-to-date to LKR 4.6 billion for the nine months ended 30 September 2016. DTV recorded a net loss of LKR 346 million for the first nine months of 2016 compared to a net loss of LKR 130 million in the corresponding period of 2015.

Dialog Broadband Networks (DBN) featuring the Group’s Fixed Telecommunications and Broadband Business saw its revenue reach LKR 6.8 billion for the nine months ended 30 September 2016, representing an increase of 27 percent. DBN’s net loss for the first nine months amounted to LKR 62 million, compared to a net loss of LKR 53 million in the corresponding period of 2015.

Group capex for the nine months ended 30 September 2016 totaled LKR 12.7 billion. Capital expenditure was directed in the main towards investments in broadband infrastructure in Sri Lanka.
