Digital publishers demand withdrawal of Internet tax in KPK

PESHAWAR: After convincing the Punjab government, bloggers and digital publishers of Pakistan have approached the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government to overturn Internet tax.

Earlier, Ddigital publishers had protest against the imposition of Internet taxes in Punjab and had also blacked out their website in order to communicate their anger.

Under the pressure of the Digital community, the Punjab government withdrew tax on Internet. However, after winning the ‘no tax’ battle against the Punjab government, Digital publishers have now turned towards the KPK government and asked the KPK chief minister to withdraw the tax.

According to details, the government of KPK charges 19.5 percent Internet tax from wired broadband customers. However, other internet users including 3G and 4G users are not taxable due to Court’s ruling against taxing those Digital publisher’s letter was also directed carbon copied to Imran Khan as well, which highlighted the long term benefits of tax-free internet.

It gives the in-depth statistical data showing that broadband users in Pakistan grew to 600% courtesy 3G and 4G networks. Letter also embarked upon the usage of internet for the useful purposes in the province including online registration of FIR in KPK province, and other immense uses of internet including e-farming, e-health, e-education and other projects of alike.

In an end note of the letter, publishers mentioned that world top grown economies are achieving successes by keeping internet tax free for its users, which Pakistan also needs at this juncture of time.
