DI&I foils terrorism bid, explosive chemicals retrieved

KARACHI: Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DI&I), FBR has seized huge quantity of explosive chemicals meant for terrorist activity during religious processions.

According to official sources, credible information was received about plan to bring explosive chemicals to Karachi via Quetta to be used for terrorist activities.

Reacting on the information, a team of DI&I intercepted a truck TIV-793, owned by Star Al-Usman Transport, at Kathor, some 50 kilometres far from Karachi. After physical examination, the team recovered 19000 kilograms Maleic Anhydride and 5000 kilograms Phthalic Anhydride from a container. The market value of the chemical is over Rs 9.5 million. To a question, the sources said that chemical had multiple usages either for fertiliser or for making high explosive devices.
