During the meeting, Director Asif Marghoob Siddiqui stressed the need for further improving the performance of the directorate and asked the authorities concerned to tighten up their grip around the unscrupulous elements.

He further asked the authorities concerned to keep a vigilant eye on crooked importers and utilise all their resources in order to detect tax evasion, mis-declaration and smuggling cases. He said that a weekly report in this regard should be compiled and sent to him on a regular basis.

Asif Marghoob Siddiqui further asked the officers to check the status of cases sent by the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation to the adjudicating authorities, so that the present status of the cases could be sent to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for information.

“The status of those cases should also be checked which are laying pending in the customs tribunal and customs courts,” he added.

During the meeting, he lauded the efforts of the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) and stressed the need for enhancing the intelligence system among other federal organisations for uprooting smuggling activities from the region.

On the occasion, Director Asif Marghoob Siddiqui instructed the officers and officials of the directorate to establish the cases on merit and pursue significant cases in order to recover evaded amounts.

He further assured the officers and officials that the support of the directorate general was with them in those cases which have been established on the basis of merit and fulfil every legal aspect.
