Director Internal Audit Owais Agha calls for steps to improve performance

KARACHI: The newly appointed Director of the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs, Dr Owais Agha Jawwad, after taking the charge of the office, has called a meeting of the officers of the department at his office.

During the meeting, the newly appointed Director Dr Agha Jawwad has emphasized for improving the performance of the department. He also asked the authorities concerned to start work on pending cases.

The Director of Internal Audit-Customs also directed the authorities concerned to wrap up the working on long awaited reports linked with the gold smuggling case.

On the occasion, the Director Internal Audit-Customs also directed the authorities concerned to complete and send the stuck-up audit paras to the concern field formation Collectorates.

It is pertinent to mention here that the report regarding the gold smuggling has been finalized by the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs, however, it has not yet released due to some un-avoidable reasons.

On the other hand, some audit paras related to steel consignments, auto mobile parts and others are also laying unattended for last several months in the department due to absence of the authority in the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs.

The sources further informed Customs Today that the appointment of Dr Owais Agha Jawwad as the Director of the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs by the authorities concerned of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is a part to improve the working of the said department.

It may be mentioned here that an officer of BS-20 Dr Owais Agha Jawwad is also holding an additional charge of the Director General of the Directorate General of Internal Audit-Customs. However, the said officer was also holding an additional charge of the Collector-Customs Appraisement (East), when he was holding a charge of Collector Customs-Appraisement (West).
